Mendel University in Brno warmly invites you to participate in the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) on Sustainable Horticulture – Shaping the Future of Green Landscapes: From Lab to Field, hosted by the Faculty of Horticulture. This unique programme combines short-term mobility for both online and physical components. The physical sessions are scheduled from June 22 to 26, 2026, while the online session will be held on June 16, 2026 and July 7, 2026. Designed only for students.

What can you expect?

This summer school offers an engaging learning experience focused on current challenges and innovative solutions in the selected field. Participants will gain valuable insights into contemporary trends, practical approaches, and sustainable strategies, combining academic knowledge with hands-on activities and real-life case studies.

The programme connects current scientific knowledge with practical examples from professional practice, field visits, and interactive sessions. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of how theory can be applied in real-world contexts while strengthening their international cooperation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Face-to-face part

  • Provide students with a comprehensive overview of the Faculty of Horticulture’s key research areas and academic excellence.
  • Develop practical knowledge through direct collaboration with leading researchers and experts across specialized departments.
  • Offer behind-the-scenes insights into innovative fields such as biotechnology, landscape architecture, and sustainable horticulture.
  • Create opportunities for academic exchange and professional growth for students at bachelor, master, and PhD levels, connecting theory with advanced practice.
  • Theoretical knowledge is put into context through excursions to exemplary facilities and unique landscapes across the South Moravian region.

Venue

The BIP will take place in Lednice, located approximately 50 km from Brno. Lednice is home to MENDELU’s Faculty of Horticulture and is one of the most visited destinations in the Czech Republic.

The town is part of the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its beautiful architecture, gardens, and cultural heritage.

Registration

  • Registration is mandatory for the participation at the event.
  • Only registered students/staff will be allowed to participate.
  • The confirmation of the registration will be sent to your email by our coordinator.
  • Deadline for registration is 17.05.2025.

Administrative process

  • Participants are required to register using the provided registration form. Upon successful registration, they will receive an Acceptance Letter.
  • It is recommended that participants secure a grant from their home institution to cover travel and accommodation expenses, which are allocated as follows:
    • 1-14 days (79 euros/day)
    • 15-30 days (56 euro/day)
  • Participants must consult their home university to understand the conditions of the mobility and confirm eligibility for a grant.
  • A completed Learning Agreement is mandatory prior to mobility. Detailed information on this will be sent to participants before their departure.
  • At the end of the mobility period, participants will be issued a Confirmation and Transcript of Records. Additionally, students participating in the BIP will be awarded 3 ECTS credits.
  • Staff can participate within the Erasmus+ STT (Staff Mobility for Training) or Erasmus+ STA (Staff Mobility for Teaching):
    • E+ STT – qualifying as eligible BIP participants
    • E+ STA – qualifying as organizers/lectures, not as participants
  • For documentation, you will be contacted by BIP organizers.

Accommodation

  • accommodation is booked by the organizers of the BIP in 2-3 bed rooms in student dormitory
  • price per person is 300 CZK/night (accommodation is paid by the participants)
