Study stay

usually twice a year:
- January (1st round) – with validity for the next academic year (i.e. SP that takes place in January 2022, within the academic year 2021/22, shall be valid for the academic year 2022/23 beginning in September 2022)
- May (2nd round) – for the SS of the present academic year (shall take place only if sufficient funds are available)

Qualification Conditions of the Erasmus+ Programme

the selection of colleges/universities to be entered into the application (maximum of 4 institutions in the maximum of 2 languages of instruction) must be carefully considered
we recommend that you thoroughly go through all available sources of information:list of partner institutions
final reports from mobilities (UIS – Public information portal → Further information about MENDELU → Study information – Reports about the abroad placements)
websites of partner universities and colleges
Erasmus+ Days, an event organized by the Department of International Relations and Internationalization (“DIRI”) and the Erasmus Student Network (“ESN”) in November 2020 (students will be informed of the event by bulk e-mail)
when choosing an institution we recommend taking into account:language of study (instruction)
suitable study subjects:it is advisable to pay attention to the information about whether the cooperation with the institution concerns the whole institution or its particular section; in case a particular section of the institution is mentioned (faculty, department), you would most probably be able to register only (or mainly) the subjects taught at that faculty or department
the student must take specialised subjects (i.e. those related to his/her study programme) worth the minimum of 18 ECTS credits per semester
it is advisable to consider in which category the subjects studied abroad will be recognized at MENDELU (compulsory, compulsory-optional, optional)
the student can get up to 30 points in the SP for the selection of subjects corresponding to his/her study specialisation (see below)
place and practical considerationsit is advisable to verify the amount of the scholarship provided toward the stay (find out how expensive the place is from final reports in the UIS or info materials of the university/college concerned)

the student may enter 4 different colleges/universities in his/her application in the order of preference, within 2 different languages of instruction
each student competes with all the other students who chose the same study language and the same colleges/universities in the SP
applicants who filed only the electronic, not also the printed, application shall be excluded from further procedure
applicants who do not present themselves for the language examination shall be excluded, too
the successful applicants shall be assigned one college/university at which they shall study (there are no pre-set minimum points that the student must achieve in order to be placed at a certain college/university; the success depends on the performance of the group of applicants competing for the placement and on the funds available)
the participants to the SP applying in two languages of instruction shall be assigned only one college/university upon processing the results
in the case of two applicants with the same college/university on a different position in their list of preferences, who have a different number of points, the placement shall be assigned to the applicant who obtained higher number of points, not the applicant who has the institution on the higher position in his/her list of preferences
should the applicant fail to obtain a placement in any of the colleges/universities in his/her list of preferred institutions, the student shall be included into the standby list for the study language concerned (or, as the case may be, to the list for both the languages in which he/she failed)
substitutes may be addressed with an additional offer of study abroad in the order according to the standby list (sometimes this may happen several months after the termination of the SP)

written tests are taken via the UIS – students who successfully applied to the SP shall get all the information by e-mail
in order to pass the test, you must give at least 26 correct answers of the total 40, and thus obtain 13 points
time assigned: 45 minutes plus 5 minutes for handing out and check

Oral part

after taking the written test, students sign in the rosters to the oral exam with individual teachers
dates and times of examinations must be observed
the oral part consists of an interview in the duration of 7-10 minutes
in order to pass the exam, the student must get at least 7 points out of 10

each applicant may monitor the development of his/her point score (interim results) and the final SP results in his/her application profile in the UIS
the final results of the SP shall be published according to the timetable
unsuccessful applicants shall be put on the standby list within the selected language (languages) of study in which they did not succeed and they may be addressed with an offer of study abroad later (in case a new agreement on student exchange is concluded or an existing agreement is extended or a successful candidate cancels his/her mobility)

Internship placement

When does it take place?

You can apply for the traineeship anytime during the academic year. First step is to find the suitable organization and agree with them on the terms of traineeship. Only after you will receive your Letter of Acceptance, you can fill in the application in UIS.

find a suitable organization abroad,
contact the international relations officer of your faculty and ask about the selection of the organization and other possibilities, conditions and dates of the selection procedure; for contacts see List of international relations officers at faculties
meet the qualification prerequisites for a traineeship,
carefully consider the selection of the organization abroad,
file an application in UIS and upload other required documents including the acceptance letter.

Please note! The dates of the traineeship stated in the application form and the acceptance letter are binding and change is possible only if the student submits the Traineeship Agreement with the new dates approved by all the three parties to the officer of the Rectorate Department of International Relations and Internationalization in charge of Erasmus+ traineeships before the original date of the traineeship beginning. If this condition is not met, the traineeship shall be cancelled and shall not take place.

The student is responsible for the selection of the receiving organization and for practical arrangements concerning the traineeship.

The receiving organization may be any public or private organization operating on the labour market or in the area of education, professional training or youth (public or private enterprise, public entity on the local, regional or national level, professional association, business union, research institute, foundation, non-profit organization, institute or educational centre etc.).
Unauthorised organizations, in which traineeships must not take place:

– EU institutions and other EU bodies including specialised agencies,

– organizations administering EU programmes (potential conflict of interests and/or double funding, e.g. national agencies). Students and recent graduates are not allowed to be involved in projects financed by other EU programmes during their traineeships.

Please note!

Mobilities to the country of the trainee’s origin have the lowest priority and mobilities to the country of the current stay are not possible at all!

The participant to the selection procedure chooses and enters into the application the language in which he/she will take the exam on the basis of his/her choice of the main working language of the traineeship.

Applicants who do not present themselves at the language exam shall be excluded from further procedure. Applicants who fail to obtain the required number of points and thus recommendation for a traineeship abroad shall be excluded, too.

After taking the language exam and obtaining points on the basis of other criteria, the applicants shall be ranked according to the total number of points, which shall serve as the criterion for provision of financial aid toward the traineeship. Students who have not carried out their obligatory traineeship yet will be given priority.

Submit the application in UIS together with the acceptance letter from the traineeship provider at the International Relations Office of your faculty.

The language test in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian consists of a written part (paper version) and a short oral test (level B2). Please come in time and bring an identification document (identity card or student’s record book) for the test. No aids except writing materials are permitted; the mobile phone shall be switched off and placed in the bag.

Fill in the data in the heading and read instructions to test questions. The written part consists of 40 partial tasks (each task is given 0.5 point) divided into several types of activities using various testing methods (answer selected from a menu, semi-open answer, created answer, transformation of information, matching, supplementing, completion of text etc.) on the intermediate language level. The total number of points for the written part is 20.

The following areas are tested:

vocabulary
grammar
reading with understanding
language functions, i.e. use of the language for completing a practical task.

In order to pass the test, you must give at least 26 correct answers of the total 40, and thus obtain 13 points.
Time assigned: 45 minutes plus 5 minutes for handing out and check.

Oral part

After taking the written test, students sign in to the oral exam with teachers of the Department of Languages and Cultural Studies through rosters in the classroom. The date of the exam must be observed or, as the case may be, a change must be agreed on with the examiner in advance. The oral part consists of a 7 – 10 minute’s interview per candidate, i.e. six students per hour. In order to pass the exam, you must get at least 7 points out of 10.

Absence

In case you cannot participate in the written test on the set date (only serious reasons accepted) you must excuse yourself in writing (e-mail is sufficient) at tereza.formackova@mendelu.cz and the foreign relations officer of your faculty at the latest two days before the test. A later apology shall be disregarded and the application shall be excluded. Please enter into the Subject line: “OMLUVENKA JT”. You will be scheduled for an alternative date.

Selection procedure results

The results of the selection procedure shall be published by the faculty international relations officers in the method usual at the faculty concerned.

Eramus+ credit mobility

Have you chosen? Does the partner university offer a study program/internship in your field? Contact the relevant project coordinator, who will give you more information,
Apply for the selection procedure, this usually takes place together with the selection procedure for the ordinary Erasmus+, ie. September and January, or an extraordinary selection procedure is announced at the university or on faculty level,
Find out at the foreign department of the faculty the consequences of studying abroad for your studies at MENDELU (recognition of courses completed abroad, the need for study distribution, etc.),
And now just wait for the results of the selection procedure to be announced.

You must be enrolled in an accredited study program at MENDELU (bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral study program),
You have duly completed at least the first year of your university studies (full-time, part-time and distance form),
The length of the study stay is at least 3 months (trimester)/for an internship the minimum is 2 months, the maximum for both types of stays is 12 months – always within one academic year,
The sum of all Erasmus+ study stays and Erasmus+ internships at a given level of study may not exceed 12 months (stays completed during LLP/Erasmus are also included),
You may not terminate or interrupt your studies at MENDELU before going abroad or during a study stay,
Selection criteria – study results, language test, agreement of the coordinator,
OLS – Online Language Support does not apply to this project.
During the Erasmus+ study stay, it is necessary to obtain at least 18 ECTS credits for each semester of study. This condition applies to bachelor’s and master’s degrees,
If you do not meet the condition of completing 18 ECTS defined by Article no. 6 of the so-called Erasmus+ Grant Agreement, you will be asked to return part of the allocated financial contribution, in the amount of 1/30 of the stay costs for each outstanding credit. This does not apply if an unforeseen situation or event prevented you from meeting the minimum requirements and which you were unable to influence and which you immediately informed the program coordinator at MENDELU.
If you are a doctoral student, your study stay/internship must be approved by the supervisor of your dissertation.
The recommended number of credits for doctoral studies is not specified.

Study stays

The selection procedure is announced by the Department of International Relations and Internationalization (IRO) at the beginning of each academic year for the next year. Students are informed about the opening of the call by a bulk e-mail. The first round of the selection procedure is organized by the faculty, the final selection is made by the Rectorate. The student submits the application at the International Relations Office of his/her faculty:

Proof of language proficiency (compulsory for FBE students, others optionally) – international certificate, state language examination, study in English, results of the MENDELU language test etc. If the student passed a language test e.g. in the Erasmus+ programme, its result may be acknowledged upon the student’s request; however, this result may not be older than 3 years. Students from FBE who have no proof of language proficiency will take the language test at the faculty

The student may file up to three applications to different universities, which must be listed in the order of preference. Please choose the university only after you have become acquainted with its offer of study courses. Otherwise, you may find out too late that the university concerned has no courses in the language you prefer or its offer has no reference to your subject of study!

The success in the selection procedure at MENDELU does not automatically mean that the student is accepted by the university of his/her choice! Unsuccessful applicants shall be put on the standby list and may be addressed with an offer of study abroad later.

After the announcement of the selection procedureresults the list of nominated students shall be sent to the universities abroad by the IRO coordinator, from whom the student shall receive an e-mail confirming the dispatch of nomination.
After the nomination, the student should receive an e-mail from the university abroad, confirming receipt of the nomination, which does not necessarily mean admission of the student to study (there are usually additional administrative formalities in line with the instructions of the university abroad).
The nomination of the student is binding. In the event that the student needs to cancel the mobility for serious reasons, he/she must inform the faculty, IRO and send an e-mail apology to the coordinator abroad.

Summer schools

The scholarship covers the participation fees depending on its lenght upto the following limits

1 – 7 days…………… 5,000 CZK

8 – 20 days…………. 10,000 CZK

21 – 30 dayS………… 15,000 CZK

The scholarship is paid out in Czech crowns pursuant to the Grant Agreement. Any costs exceeding this amount shall be borne by the student. The student can also search for offers of government scholarships in the selected country.
In case if online summer school, scholarship can be paid upon the registration fee regardless its lenght, but not more than 10,000 CZK.

Ph.D. – short-term internship

The scholarship program is announced in April, in the event that the allocated funds are not used up, it is possible to apply on the basis of “first come, first served” – but not later than 30 November of the relevant calendar year. The mobility has to start in November at the latest.
The scholarship programme is awarded only in case of active participation on a conference or a research symposium upon confirmation of the accepted conference abstract.
The scholarship amount is to cover the full amount of the registration fee at a European Research Conference, other costs are to be covered by the student, eventually by the relevant department.
The scholarship is granted on the basis of individual assessment of each application which shall include:
basic information about the applicant (first name and surname, year of enrolment, current field of study, ID No.);
dates and purpose of the stay, title of the event, abstract;
reasoning of application, relevance of mobility in the context of study and in the context of Ph.D. thesis, expected assets of mobility in the context of university/faculty/department.
confirmation of expert supervision, issued by a member of faculty (typically the head of department, Ph.D. thesis supervisor);
confirmation of the attendance at the conference/ symposium (accepted abstract, accepted attendance etc.) (this documents is required to submit together with the application)
information about co-funding the traineeship from other sources, its amount, including details about applying for such co-funding and the result.
The complete application must be handed over to the international relations officers of their faculties. The applicants shall be informed about the decision about the approved grant or rejection of the scholarship within 15 days of the Vice-Rector’s decision.
The application may not be filed by an individual whose previous MENDELU mobility participation was unsuccessful or by a student who has a financial liability toward MENDELU. There is no automatic entitlement to the scholarship and the decision on its provision shall be at the sole discretion of the Vice-Rector for international relations and internationalization.

Ph.D. – long-term internship

No scholarships are currently being announced for 2022. The collection of applications is temporarily suspended due to limited funds! Students can only travel as a so-called zero grant without financial support from OMVI.

The applicants shall be informed about the decision about the scholarship within 15 days after the Vice-Rector’s decision.
The mobility has to start in November 2022 at the latest.

CEEPUS

Eligibility:

The programme is intended for regular fulltime students who have finished the 2nd semester of their study, for postgraduate students and university teachers.
The programme may be joined within university networks or individually (as a freemover); however, mobility within networks is preferred.
Citizenship of a CEEPUS member country or Equal Status (you are not allowed to apply for study in the country of your citizenship).
The scholarship is not provided for research except for the purposes of final year dissertations and doctoral theses; the scholarship may also cover practical training.

Duration:

Long term students – 3 to 4 months (according to host university’s requirements)

Short term students – 1 to 2 months
